Jacobs Back Room
Although The Umlauts genesis is in Stroud, founding members and songwriting partners Alfred Lear and Oliver Offord met lyricists and vocalists Annabelle Mödlinger and Maria Vittoria Faldini at art college in London, blowing the group wide open in a creative sense. The self-professed “trans-European multi-lingual, art school, post-punk, techno-inspired uber-group” released their debut EP Ü last year. Ü’s tightly hewn mix of mechanical synth-pop, spikey no wave and bristling post-punk saw them play memorable shows at End of the Road Festival, Wide Awake, Pitchfork Music Festival London and a tour support slot for Shame. Alongside this, they have received airplay and plaudits from BBC 6 Music, NME and Loud & Quiet to name but a few.
