Muriel
Cardiff-based Muriel is the brainchild of songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and tattoo artist Zak Thomas. Initially a recording project, Muriel evolved into a captivating ensemble that weaves together classical guitar-driven arrangements, layered vocals, and introspective lyricism. Influenced by lo-fi indie rock and folk artists like Sparklehorse, Carissa’s Weird, and The Microphones, Muriel’s music carries a raw and heartfelt quality. As Zak’s bedroom recordings began to take shape, a group of talented friends and musicians, including Rachel Crabbe, Andy Olivieri, Will Davies, and Jamie Joiner, joined forces to bring the songs to life and deliver captivating live performances. Muriel’s upcoming debut album, ‘Walking Just To Walk’, delves into the stages of grief and the journey back to spirituality. Written and recorded in the comfort of Zak’s bedroom and tattoo shop, the album reflects the project’s experimental drive and showcases Muriel’s unique musical perspective.
