You wouldn’t think that the deep, bellowing voice of John Francis Flynn would have started his career on cruise ships, but you’d be surprised. Initially performing twee Irish folk on a Disney cruise, something he would come to hate, Flynn now has a much different career.
An artist capable of rearranging trad songs and adding a heavy emotional force, he was a founding member of the band Skipper’s Alley. Later, he would support Lankum on tour before catching the eye of the label River Lea.
His debut album ‘I Would Not Live Always’ was released in 2021, with ‘Look Over The Wall, See Over The Sky’ arriving in 2023. His music is deeply rooted in his home of Dublin, and his voice sounds as if the Earth were singing through him.
