A band formed from the bones of beloved indie band Palma Violets, Gently Tender has a completely different vibe. The London six-piece released their debut album ‘Take Hold Of Your Promise!’ in 2022 and was praised for its often compelling collection of folk melodies. The baritone of singer Sam Fryer is immediately identifiable, his voice demanding your complete attention.
They released an EP in May titled, ‘This Was Once Fields’. Its premise was based around a walk Fryer had from Hertfordshire into Central London and becoming aware of the changing of emotion as he transitioned from countryside to city. The title track reflects this as it slowly morphs into something more vast and epic as it goes on.
Make sure you don’t miss the South Londoner’s gentle, intricate folk at Sŵn this year.
