Bristol resident RHAIN is currently a bit of a hidden gem. Her huge vocal and inimitable charm recently won the favour of Ali Chant (Youth Lagoon), Alex Lee (Florence & The Machine) and John Parish (PJ Harvey) at a local show, and subsequent secret basement recording sessions with these musicians are showing a lot of promise for things to come.
Her unique style of song-writing and piano playing has been making a significant impact on the live scene, with notable recent performances including support for Tune-Yards & Bill Ryder Jones and a show in the Albert Hall’s Elgar Room.
“RHAIN is not of this Earth; her intimate outpourings bringing a certain other-worldly aspect that will pluck you from your every day and welcome you into an immeasurable landscape. One of Bristol’s best-kept secrets, it’s only a matter of time before RHAIN takes the world for her own.” Drowned in Sound
“Rhain, with a wicked sense of humour and a vocal register that could probably shatter a coffee mug. As her wandering voice propelled musings on love, witty observations on family life and a well-timed Pavlova simile around the room, we left feeling sultry, stoned and surrounded by whispered Björk comparisons.” Crack Magazine
“There are touching points here – Kate Bush perhaps being the most pertinent – but to constantly reach for comparisons seems somewhat lazy and missing-of-the-point when something this special comes along.” Gold Flake Paint
